![Virginia Cities prayer &update call follow up - coming eventsDear Friends: Great time together this morning once again - Eric's challenge to us to be "Body Builders", where all parts of the Body are represented and each person's gifting contributes to the building up of the Body in Love, so that the world around us can experience what God is like through the Church. We are literally His Body - under control of the Head (Jesus), we are how the world around us experiences who Jesus is and what He is like!As we accelerate toward Movement Day 2021 and toward the time 9/10 days later when Dr. Mac and Bishop Claude will be with us to share the vision of reconciliation and the book that they have just completed "Required" (God's Call to Justice, Mercy, and Humility to Overcome Racial Division), we are all sensing that this is a significant time period for what the Lord is doing in our midst. We need everyone's help:1. Would you invest some time praying for these events?2. Would you ask the Lord who He may be calling you to invite to participate in these events, and then invite them to come?3. Would you volunteer to help with the logistics and practical aspects of these events, so that our guests can have the best possible experience? I love Jesus' words in Mark 10:43b-45: But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[a] and whoever would be first among you must be slave[b] of all. As we individually, as families, as a church, as a community, and as a nation walk through this difficult time, we hear the call of the Lord beckoning us to humble ourselves and to draw near to Him together as brothers and sisters - to seek His face and His forgiveness....this is a time of lament for the brokenness and for the divisiveness we see all around us - we do, indeed, need the Lord to intervene!
Rev. Claude Marshall will be sharing a devotion from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and guiding us as we look at the subject of repentance and how it is a doorway to breakthroughs in the Spirit for individuals, families, churches, communities and nations... We are looking forward to this and to having an opportunity to pray with and for one another and our families, churches, communities and nation(s)
We want to invite you to fast tomorrow (Friday) and to spend some time with the Lord and ask Him for a breakthrough. Fasts can take whatever form you would like - One great passage you might consider during the day is Isaiah 58:1-12... Just taking a little time to quiet our hearts and to ask the Lord to impress on us what He would say to us personally for the day...

If we were to ask those on the call to share what God has been doing in our cities, there would be much to share! We will hear from just a couple of those on the call sharing what the Lord is doing in our midst... In the midst of pain comes transformation....
Transformed lives lead to transformed churches, and transformed churches lead to transformed communities...

Join us this week with Archie Jefferson and William Capers from Men of Vision and Purpose as they will share about their mentoring work with youth in Williamsburg. Archie and William founded Men of Vision and Purpose - a highly regarded mentoring program for Middle and High School Youth in the Williamsburg area, and are co-authors of "Failure to Launch - Managing Oneself through Failure"

Robert Stephens and Leahmarie Gottlieb from the St. Paul's Community Development Corporation will be joining us. They will share with us about Community Development Corporations as a vehicle to promote community flourishing, and what they have been doing in Norfolk. Here is a brief summary of their vision:
The St. Paul’s CDC is designed to support private sector/private nonprofit and public human services organizations committed to person-centered, outcomes-based, data-driven work that advances racial equity using generational, whole family approaches. The CDC will partner and learn with organizations that go beyond traditional human services delivery methods and move toward new ways to create permanent pathways to economic empowerment.

Chuck Klein Bio
Chuck Klein provides national leadership to the Campus Alliance, a coalition of over 60 organizations and church denominations with the vision of prayer, care and sharing the gospel with every middle school and high school student and campus in America. At the core of the Alliance is giving every student the opportunity to hear and respond to the message of Jesus Christ. The Campus Alliance sponsors every school.com where students and adult leaders can adopt their school and connect with resources for campus ministry and momsinprayer.org . Chuck is also an author and video producer. He and his wife Clare make their home in Escondido, CA. They have 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren (and a fourth on the way).

Melanie Lee from Grace Bible Church is going to share with us how God is mobilizing the Church to love our schools and teachers in practical ways, and how you and your church can get involved... Melanie Lee is the Local Outreach coordinator for Grace Bible Church. She is a former teacher, principal and public school administrator. She leads Grace's initiatives in education which includes the adoption of 11 schools in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. She will share how Grace got this passion and a number of the innovative programs that have evolved.
Dr. Mac Pier, founder of Movement.org, will be joining us as well...
Let's pray for him as he leads 160 leaders from around the globe in the Global Scholars Program next week and as he land his team lead Movement Day X just 3 days later...

Senior Vice President for the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and former Department Chair for Counseling Programs at Regent University. Dr. Scalise is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with nearly 40 years of clinical and professional experience in the mental health field, and he served six years on the
Virginia Board of Counseling under two governors. Specialty areas include professional/pastoral stress and burnout, combat trauma and PTSD, marriage and family issues, grief and loss, addictions and recovery, leadership development, and lay counselor training.

Serve the City is an organization founded by Carlton Deal (who is from the 757) that is operating in cities all over the world, with the goal of providing an opportunity for church congregations to engage in service together to express the love of God in practical ways to their communities. This past May, they held a global volunteer day, where thousands of volunteers in more than 30 cities across 25 countries and 6 continents came together to love their cities through acts of kindness and service.

Dr. Mac Pier has invited Khary Bridgewater to share about his Capital Renewal Investment Plan. This is a visionary program whose purpose is to make significant investments into black communities, institutions and businesses in order to help build the capacity of black churches, black community-based organizations, and black-owned businesses and to facilitate long-term growth of local black economies, which have often lacked access to capital resources and the infrastructure that would allow them to thrive. This plan could potentially be a game-changer for advancing wealth creation and the flourishing of portions of our community who have long lacked access to needed resources… Glenn Carrington, the Dean of the Norfolk State Business School will also join the conversation with Dr. Pier and Khary Bridgewater.

The march for Jesus began in the US in 1989, and in our region two brothers, Bishop Cleveland Brown and Pastor Clinton Brown, have been on the forefront of organizing and leading over 20 years of marches. As we heard recently from Gary Frost (National Executive Director) the March for Jesus Movement has found a new vision and purpose. The brothers and a group of praying individuals have felt led to lead a March on October 25th. The March will begin at Harbor Park and follow a 1/2 mile route to City Hall. Join us this Saturday to hear the vision over the last three decades for the unification of the body of Jesus Christ and the unity of Churches from these two faithful warriors. Consider how your fellowship can get involved.

Kevin founded the Life Enrichment Center in Norfolk in 2003, and what began as an effort to help 20-30 students in a few Norfolk schools has spread throughout Hampton Roads, and even extended to Richmond and Alexandria Public Schools, impacting 15,000 students this year. Over 2,000 tutors from churches, businesses, and the community have participated in tutoring, including 100 law enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. https://lecliteracy.org/

Housing Group Meeting - January 16, 2020 | 7:00 PM
The second meeting of the Housing Design Team will be December 3rd at 7PM at the Urban Discovery Ministries building, (UDM) 121 E Virginia Beach Blvd (Corner of Monticello and Va Beach Blvd).
Please bring your ideas and stories so that we do not fail to capture the full scope of Housing in the City of Norfolk. The meeting will last for an hour and a half.
MOVEMENT DAY Williamsburg - November 16, 2019| 9:00 – 10:30 am
Please join us for a community gathering at Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway in Williamsburg, VA 23185 as we focus on a "A time to heal-A time to hope". At 11:15 – 1:00 pm a leaders breakout session will be held.
Join us for Movement Day on the Peninsula. Our keynote presenter November 15-16 is Bishop Claude Alexander of Park Church in Charlotte. Bishop Alexander serves as the Board Chair for Gordon Conwell Seminary. He has also served on the board of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Bishop Alexander was a keynote at Movement Day Africa in Nairobi in August 2018.
He will present the historical road map for race relations in the church in America dating back to 1619. He will also talk about Movement Day as a vehicle to bring diverse racial groups together to address the stubborn facts of local communities. Movement Day NORFOLK - November 15, 2019 | 8:00-9:30 am
Please join Movement Day-Norfolk for a community celebration focusing on the unity of the Church. Bishop Claude Alexander (former President of the Hampton University's Minister's Conference and Board Member of movement.org will speak on "A time to heal-A time to hope". This is the beginning of a multi-year expression that can define and address some of the most challenging issues facing our city. The event is free.
